We met mama Seraphina at a wedding recently (she made the cake – with pandan and chocolate raspberry layers – and it was totally YUMMO!). She launched her business last year to balance her passion for baking with being at home with her two daughters. Not only can Seraphina take any challenge you throw at her – delicate flowers, intricate piping, molded fondant – but her cake flavours go way beyond your basic chocolate and vanilla. Some of her 21 flavours on offer include White Chocolate Matcha, Black Sesame Honey Cake, Rose Lychee, Chocolate Salted Caramel, and even vegan options like Swiss Meringue Buttercream. The Cake Shop

We love The Cake Shop’s cute 3D fondant cakes, but be warned they don’t come cheap, mama: prices start at $180 and can get up to $350. But they also offer more economical options (we’re pretty impressed by their durian ice cream cake which comes in at $95), and their kid-themed 3D fresh cream cakes start at $85.90. They also offer Eggless Cakes – well priced at $36.90! Other major pros: three convenient locations (in Jurong, Bukit Timah @ The Grandstand, and Seletar) and online ordering!

We’ve always loved the clever name of this pretty pink shop on Tanjong Pagar Road, and it turns out their cakes are just as colourful and vibrant as their storefront! Cake Spade offers everything from crumbles, to cupcakes, to brownies and takeaway slices (10 different flavours to choose from, including a whole bunch of yummy-sounding cheesecakes (Speculoos Cookie Butter Cheesecake? OMG!). Their customised cakes include both 3D fondant and beautifully piped icing options; they generally recommend ordering a week in advance.

Her cakes contain no white cane sugar or honey and are wonderful for diabetics. If you’re looking for a 3D birthday cake in Singapore, Temptations, a gourmet bakery in charming Joo Chiat, has a reputation for their delicious special occasion 3D cakes! We’ve had a little peek at their gallery and we’ve seen a few jungle-themed cakes, Captain America’s shield, as well as a variety of Frozen styles. Modern reinventions of classics like a creamy Oreo cheesecake and a fun strawberry shortcake are on the shelves if you don’t have the time for something to be customised, but we personally think they’re worth the wait.
